Meet Liam Donnelly, Our Final Devo Athlete of 2025

Be Murray

Liam Donnelly is our final athlete for 2025, and as a Canadian competing on the draft legal circuit, he instantly jumped out at us during the Devo Team Application process. His story of triathlon is equal parts heartwarming and inspiring.

At 11, Liam watched the Olympics and was instantly inspired. It changed the trajectory of his adolescence. Having grown up playing traditional sports at school, he quickly shifted to joining his father for long rides. When his dad would look over his shoulder to go out and back to Liam, he often found he was right at his wheel, revving to not only keep up, but to keep on going.

“I just saw a Canadian hero Simon Whitfield and I told my parents ‘I want to do that.’ “

This year will be Liam’s first on the world circuit, and it will also be a year of changes for him as he leaves his home in Victoria to train, race and to explore shifting gears with a new coach. In  2025, he hopes to gain experience alongside the best, with an eye on the Olympic qualification process in the next few years.

“A lot of the best experiences in my life have come right after I've made some sort of  big change."

Liam will spend the year in new places, making new friends, and diving into the world of triathlon in an even bigger way than before with the TTL community right by his side. We know he has big things in store, and his season kicks off this weekend at the La Paz American Cup.  Cheer him on with us! It’s going to be an epic year for the draft legal boys.

"No matter what happens, it's not going to be a status quo year by any means for me."

THIS OR THAT :

Long Ride of Long Run : Long run!!

Goggles Falling off or Socks Sliding Down: I don’t wear socks in races but for sure would choose that over googles falling off

Training in the Heat or the Snow : Training in the snow, obviously

Giving up Coffee or Giving up Chocolate : Not a huge fan of either, but hardly ever drink coffee (sorry)

#1 Tip for Age Groupers: My #1 tip for age groupers is to not take things too seriously and surround yourself with people who not only push you, but help you enjoy the sport more. Some of the most successful professionals I know are the ones who know how to enjoy the process and have a laugh every training session. I think that everything falls into place much easier in sport when you are having the time of your life doing it.

Go To Snack : My go to snack is any type of chip (or crisps for the UK TTL'ers). It is my not so guilty pleasure, I don't go many days without having a handful or two.
