Up and Down the Mountain, as Fast as You Can!

This past weekend, Eric accomplished a goal he's been looking at for over two years: Recording the fastest known time (FKT) up and down Broken Top Mountain

Fastest Known Times are probably discussed more in the trail running than triathlon, but FKTs are like KOM/QOMs that have to be approved by the team at fastestknowntime.com: The unofficial certifiers and keepers of running and hiking FKTs for over a decade. Andrew Dawson from Runner's World captures it perfectly as an already-established route of all terrains ranging from single-digit mile routes up and down mountains to the 2,100 miles across the entire Appalachian Trail.

The Broken Top Mountain route that Eric did consisted of 100km of single track round-trip, and 7800ft of elevation gain - beginning from town on a mountain bike, then 12 miles on foot to reach the summit of the coolest mountain in Bend!

Stay Tuned for a Video of the Adventure!

I think the video will be killer, but most importantly I made it to the top of a mountain I look at in awe every day, entirely under my own power. I think this is the coolest possible version of multisport, and it feels like I’ve trained my whole life to be able to enjoy nature in this way.

Back in Bend!

After a month of traveling, Eric and Paula's schedule settled into a down week where they could spend some time back home, in Oregon and reunite with Flynn! Traveling itself is stressful, but being away from your furry family member for that long is a whole other challenge. Totally understandable for Paula to credit the extra excitement of getting to go home and see Flynn as a source of race motivation. It's been great to get back on Oregon's trails, but TTL will soon roll out en route to the next race.
