Frequently Asked Questions
Food & Dining
What should I do for meals during camp?
Since we are training hard, fuelng is priority #1. While the Welcome Dinner and Goodbye Brunch are on us, you are responsible for your daily breakfast, lunch, and remaining dinners. Here is how we recommend you plan your week:
- The "Stock Up" Strategy (Highly Recommended): Lake Las Vegas is a resort community, and the nearest full grocery store is about 10–15 minutes away. If you have a rental car, we strongly suggest making a stop at Vons or Smith’s in Henderson on your way to the hotel. Stock your room with easy breakfast and lunch essentials like oatmeal, yogurt, fruit, bagels, nut butter, cold cuts, and plenty of snacks. All rooms at the Westin have mini-fridges (but usually no microwaves), so please plan for cold prep items.
- Breakfast & Coffee: The Westin has a cafe (Marrakesh Express) for quick coffee and pastries, and a restaurant (Rick’s Café) that serves a full sit-down breakfast. Many campers prefer to eat a quick breakfast of yogurt or oatmeal in their room to maximize sleep before morning sessions.
- Lunch & Dinner (Montelago Village): Just a short walk from the hotel is Montelago Village, the social hub for the camp. There are several restaurants here including Italian, Mexican, an Irish Pub, and a gelato shop. Most campers gather here in the evenings to socialize and refuel.
- Ride Fuel: We provide nutrition (gels, bars, and drink mix) for the training sessions, so you don't need to worry about packing lunch for the bike ride. Just make sure you have a recovery meal plan for when you get off the bike!
I have dietary restrictions (Gluten-free/Vegan). Can you accommodate me?
Yes. We want you fueled and happy. We have two meals included in the camp fees (1 Dinner and 1 Brunch). 3 weeks prior to camp, we will email you asking you to confirm your specific dietary needs.
Accommodation & Logistics
What is the difference between the “Private Room” and "No Accommodation" options?
If you choose the Private Room option, we handle the booking for you at The Westin Lake Las Vegas Resort & Spa. If you choose the No Accommodation option, you are responsible for booking your own lodging entirely. This is a good option if you live locally or wish to stay with family nearby.
What if I want to share accommodations with a friend?
If you have a training buddy you want to room with, one person should select the "Private Room" option at checkout (this secures the room) and the other person should select “I'm Sharing of booking my own lodging” at checkout (this secures the camp spot). It will be up to you to split the accommodation costs privately between yourselves.
I’m coming alone. Can you find me a roommate?
We may be able to assist with pairing roommates, but we cannot make any promises. If you are looking for a roommate to split costs with, please email jordan@thattriathlonlife.com.
I registered for a Private Room. When do I select my specific room type?
Once you complete your registration, look out for an email from us within 24 hours. This email will contain a form where you can specify your room preferences (e.g., King vs. Double Queen) and provide any other specific requests.
Can I get there early or stay longer on the same reservation?
Yes. You can request an additional 2 days at the Westin on either side of the reservation at our discounted group rate. Please email jordan@thattriathlonlife.com with your request.
Can I bring my partner/spouse who doesn't train?
Non-participating partners are welcome to join you in your room, but you must book the Private Room package (or the "No Accommodation" package and book on your own). Please note that camp fees cover resources for the athlete; partners are welcome to hang out, but meals, swag, and training support are reserved for registered campers.
Is airport transportation included?
Transportation to and from Harry Reid International Airport (LAS) is not included. We recommend renting a car or arranging a ride-share (Uber/Lyft) to Lake Las Vegas. Having a rental car can be helpful if you plan to explore the area outside of camp hours, though it is not required for the scheduled camp activities.
When should I arrive and depart?
Arrival: Please plan to arrive at The Westin and get settled by 1:00 PM on Tuesday, Feb 3rd.
Departure: Camp wraps up after our morning activity and "Goodbye Brunch" on Sunday, Feb 8th. We recommend booking flights departing after 3:00 PM.
Training & Gear
What skill level is required? Do I need to be fast?
This camp is open to all endurance athletes regardless of finish time! We strongly believe in an inclusive community. For our rides, we will have 4 different pace groups ranging from casual to competitive, ensuring you are riding with people of similar ability. No one gets left behind. However, the camp is geared towards endurance races, so athletes should have completed at least a 70.3 distance race in the last 2 years.
Do I need to bring my own bike, or are rentals available?
We highly recommend bringing your own bike to get the most out of the training. If you prefer to rent, there are several bike shops in the Henderson/Las Vegas area, but you must arrange this yourself well in advance. If you are shipping your bike, we recommend using a service like Bikeflights.
What gearing do you recommend for the rides?
We will be riding through Lake Mead and the Valley of Fire, which feature some significant climbing. We recommend a cassette with an 11-30 or 11-34 tooth gear to keep your legs fresh over the week.
Will there be mechanical support?
Yes. We will have a SAG vehicle on the long rides equipped with pumps and standard tools. However, you should come prepared to fix your own flat tires. Please bring your own spare tubes, CO2, and levers.
Cancellations & Insurance
What is the refund policy if I get injured or can't make it?
In the case that you are not able to attend the camp, we are not able to provide refunds. However, we will allow athletes to transfer their place to another athlete. Transfers: If you can find another athlete to take your spot, please email us, and we can facilitate a transfer.
Do I need travel insurance?
We highly recommend purchasing travel insurance that covers trip cancellation and sports equipment. This protects you in case of injury, illness, or flight cancellations that prevent you from attending. Note: Our camp maintains up to $2,000,000 in liability insurance for the event itself, but this does not cover your personal travel costs or cancellations.
